Which shipping company do you use?
We have found UPS to be the most reliable and efficient worldwide shipping company, and have been working with them for a long time. For shipments with a very high value we use Brinks and/or FedEX depending on destination.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. For some destinations, however, due to especially difficult shipping logistics and customs procedures, or critical political situations, it is best to avoid shipping. We reserve the right to refuse shipment to certain countries that, in our opinion, represent unacceptable commercial risks.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping by UPS Express typically takes one to two days to most destinations worldwide.
- How Do I Pay for a Watch?
- Our preferred method of payment is bank wire transfer. This is the quickest and most easily verified method of payment.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes. We accept American Express subject to a 4% additional charge. For security reasons, we ship the order to the cardholder’s billing address.
Do you have a lay-a-way plan, or can I pay in installments?
We do sometimes accept payment in installments, but mostly from previous customers. The term usually does not exceed a few months.
Do you accept trade-ins?
Yes. We accept trade-ins towards the purchase of a new or used watch. Watches can be traded even, or plus/minus money depending on the value of the watch and what you want to get for it. We also buy watches and pay instantly by check, we require picture ID and one major credit card.
Which watch winder do you recommend?
In my opinion, the only watches that should ever spend time on a winder are perpetual calendars or other watches with complex date mechanisms where resetting the date frequently becomes a great inconvenience and/or causes excess wear to the mechanism. The reason is that automatic watch winders cause extra wear to the automatic mechanism, the mainspring, both the barrel and the spring itself, and the gears. I've seen too many watches with worn out movements caused by spending a lot of time on a winder. Winding on the winder could also expose the hairspring to magnetic fields. Magnetized hairsprings are one of the most common causes of erratic rate and, although easily repaired, are a great annoyance.
Watches are made and adjusted to be worn 12-18 hours and day and rest for the night and when you are not wearing them. Some people are under the impression that if the watch is not running, the lubricant will dry out and cause the watch to need service, but this is not the case. All modern oils are synthetic and do not dry out in normal environments. Most of the recent popularity in buying winders was started by companies trying to sell you winders.
What is the difference between "New" and "Like New" in a watch description?
A "Like New" timepiece has a previous owner and is in like new condition. A "New" timepiece has never been worn and has no previous owners.
Can I consign a watch to you?
Yes. We do sometimes take watches on consignment. We will agree on a price with you, and when the watch is sold, we'll send a check in that amount. You can end the consignment as long as a transaction is not in progress. The watch will stay as your property, but under our insurance.
What kind of a warranty do you offer when one buys a watch from you and is it also honored when the watch is obtained through trade?
We offer a one year warranty that covers performance and accuracy, as well as manufacturing defects for all watches obtained from our store. Our warranty does not cover over-winding in case of manual wind watches, crystal breakage, damage from dropping a watch, lost bracelet links or replacement straps.
How long does the warranty period last?
The warranty is valid for the time period specified by the manufacturer, and is between 24 and 60 months, depending on the brand.
Are used watches from VIP Timekeeper covered by any kind of warranty?
Yes. Used watches come with a VIP Timekeeper warranty, which is valid for 3 to 12 months, depending on the age and condition of the watch.
Are watches from Time of Switzerland covered by an international warranty?
Yes. Our brand new watches come with the manufacturer’s international warranty, which is dated, stamped and fully completed with the serial number of the watch by the authorised dealer.
